This project uses a journalistic research method to unpack the Beijing National Prade. The process can be divided into three parts - research, ideation and presentation. In the first phase, we collect the journals relative to this event to look closely at how the event is displayed, documented, and spread through various media. Through analysis, we decided to focus on viewship, seeing the whole event as a "theatre"—our analysis of those phenomena to the idealogy behind the scenes. Finally, we presents our findings through detailed line drawings.
On a micro scale, we shows the prade timeline and troop condiguration.
Those are weapons they showed in the parade.
Fuel and trajectory are the primary energy consumed when using weapons.
Cloud seeding is another form of energy used in this event - the technology helps control the climate to ensure there is no rain when the event is undergoing.
There are various methods of documenting this event. The camera and filming technique shows how the government wants to deliver their image to its citizens and the world.
We collected newspapers or reports from different countries and gained an international perception.
Takeaways: based on the journals we collected, we observed how the nation presented the event and what kind of information they wanted to express to the world and citizens. For example, the strict policy doesn't allow residents to go out the door and even use technology to control the climate to ensure the event has no accidents. This kind of strong control authority shows the idealogy that government want to present a strong, powerful military to the world. However, different voices are responding internationally to this event, which shows the ideology behind it. The most important class I learn is journalist research methods. We categorise the information and dig from layers of the population, communication energy, document and policy, which give the whole picture of this event. It helps develop my way of thinking or observing things more comprehensively.
